Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Matthew

Sometimes the most meaningful experiences begin with a simple decision to give back.

Matthew recently started volunteering with Nourish Meals on Wheels, and even after just one month, he is already discovering how rewarding the experience can be.
Like many volunteers, Matthew first got involved because he wanted to do something positive for his community. What he did not expect was how meaningful the connections would feel along the way.
“One of my favorite parts of volunteering is seeing how happy people are to see me,” Matthew shares. “That feeling really stays with you.”
For Nourish clients, those moments matter just as much. A friendly face at the door, a quick conversation, and the simple act of showing up can make a lasting difference in someone’s day.
Matthew also appreciates how easy the Nourish team made it to get started. Volunteers work together to find schedules that fit their lives, making it possible for people with busy routines to still give back in a meaningful way.
“The team helped me find a day and time that was convenient for me,” he says. “It made it easy to get involved.”
When asked what he would say to someone considering volunteering for the first time, Matthew keeps his advice straightforward.
“It feels good to help. Give it a try.”
Outside of volunteering, Matthew enjoys relaxing with a good book or watching films. And this year marks an exciting milestone for him. He will be graduating soon.
One of the biggest surprises about volunteering, he says, is simply how much he enjoys it.
“I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it and I do.”
Matthew’s story is a great reminder that sometimes the best way to discover purpose and connection is simply to take the first step and show up.
Thank you, Matthew, for bringing kindness, curiosity, and a spirit of service to the Nourish community. We are grateful to have you as part of the team.
