When Kerrie’s father was diagnosed with ALS last December, the stress and worry weighed heavily on her. In January, she found coloring was a way to ease her anxiety. What began as a personal outlet quickly became a shared source of connection.

As her father entered hospice, Kerrie would bring pages to him, and together they picked out which ones to color. He loved hanging the finished artwork in his room, and she loved seeing the joy it brought to his face. “This brought him so much joy,” Kerrie said. “I loved getting to see him smile.”
Her father passed away in July, but Kerrie has continued to color, finding her own peace and comfort in the process. She reflects: “I hope the adults in your program can get the same moments of joy and happiness that my dad did.”

At Nourish, we often talk about how Coloring Kindness brightens the lives of those who receive the finished pages. Kerrie’s story is a reminder that the simple act of coloring also touches the person holding the crayons or pencils. Each page is not only a gift of cheer to a neighbor, it’s also a way for the creator to find calm, hope, and healing.
