A Volunteer’s Perspective: From Kitchen to Client

Kelly joined our volunteer team this summer, eager to make a difference. What she didn’t expect was just how quickly she’d see the impact of Nourish Meals on Wheels, not just in her own volunteer work, but in the lives of people close to her.

Kelly’s sister, Shawna, is a caregiver who supports an older couple that recently enrolled in our program. From their very first delivery, Shawna saw how much her clients needed the meals and the comfort they bring. She even started sending Kelly snapshots of the meals as they arrive, along with messages like:
“So yummy! Perfect lunch from Meals on Wheels today! Just delivered.”
For Kelly, those photos carried special meaning. Having volunteered in the kitchen and on deliveries, she knows the care that goes into every meal. Seeing them reach her sister’s client made it all come full circle. As Kelly put it:
“So cool to see the meals from assembly to delivery… what a magnificent blessing you all are providing… from you to me, to my sister, to her client.”
Her words remind us of the beautiful chain of care at work: from the chefs and kitchen volunteers who prepare each meal, to the drivers who deliver them, to caregivers like Shawna who see firsthand the difference they make. And at the heart of it all, clients who can count on nourishing food and the reassurance that they are not alone.
It’s more than a meal. It’s care and connection, multiplied.
You can be part of this impact too. Volunteers are the heart of Nourish Meals on Wheels, and we always need helping hands in the kitchen, on delivery routes, and behind the scenes. Whether you can give a few hours a week or once a month, your time makes a real difference.
