At Nourish Meals on Wheels, we are continually inspired by the families who volunteer together. Parents, children, and grandparents who share their time remind us that caring for others is something best learned by example. These moments of service help build compassion, empathy, and connection across generations.

For Eva and her daughter Zadie, volunteering began as a middle school service project and grew into something much more meaningful. When Zadie joined the Junior National Honor Society, she needed to choose a place to serve her community. It was a Nourish Meals on Wheels sign along Arapahoe Road that caught their attention and opened the door to something special.
Three summers later, Eva and Zadie are still delivering meals together. What began as a school requirement has become a cherished family tradition filled with laughter, stories, and genuine friendship.

One client, Don, has become like family to them. On Fridays, they visit, build puzzles, brush Lucky the dog, and share conversation that bridges generations.

Eva also volunteers weekly in the Nourish kitchen before and after her Wednesday route, helping prepare meals for others with the same care she once received growing up surrounded by older adults who shaped her life.
For Eva and Zadie, the best part of volunteering is the connection. They have built lasting friendships with clients and other volunteers and found that small acts of kindness truly make a difference. Their story reminds us that giving time together builds compassion that lasts a lifetime.
Families, friends, and youth groups are always welcome at Nourish. Sign up to volunteer together or make a gift today and discover how sharing kindness can bring joy to every generation.
